Listening: Nothing, but I'm soliciting
reviews
on Sugar Ray, Robbie Williams, and Sixpence None the Richer.
I've wasted too much money buying CDs for one song, so
if anyone has these albums and likes them, let me know.
Contemplating: I'm getting lots of great responses to my potential tattoo. Most of those who have them admit that it hurts quite a bit, but it's worth it and they're quite happy they went through with it. They also say that I need to find something that's meaningful to me, which I agree with, and that's pretty much where I'm at with it. I'm keeping in the front of my mind that I'm going to get one, and running with the "I'll know it when I see it" course of action as far as the design goes. I went to Ask Jeeves and put in this question: "Should I get a tattoo?" It took me to a great article for people who are thinking of getting them, explaining the different styles, what to look for in a tattoo artist, care and feeding of your tattoo in its infancy, all of that. Very good information to have. |
I just reread my entry from yesterday and was struck
by how my appearance in court constitutes a "fairly
uneventful day at work." InternDarren told me today
that I sounded like I had worked there a long time.
It's amazing how much I've learned in three short
weeks, and how going in front of a judge is old hat
for me now!
Next week should be extremely exciting. It's Criminal Court week, the one week a month that the six judges all preside over full-blown trials. From what everyone says, it's a pretty crazy week, because the schedule changes hourly due to defendants suddenly deciding to plead guilty or the DA suddenly dropping charges, or various other things that can happen to postpone a trial. I've never seen a live trial start-to-finish before, so it should be cool. Most of them are only going to last one day, maybe two. The First Assistant PD (second in command to the actual Public Defender), a woman named Diane, told InternDarren and I that since the next CC week isn't until August (they don't have one in July for some reason), we'll probably be able to participate in putting the trial on at that time, actually question the witnesses and stuff. Very cool.
Okay, so the planets really are aligned against me this week. This morning, I'm casually walking over to the building from the parking lot (it's a whole block... I have one street to cross), and as I'm crossing that street, I step in a pothole. And lose my footing. And fall. Right there in the middle of the street. Of course, I get up and continue walking to the building as though nothing just happened. Fortunately, no one from my office happened to be walking in at the same time. It wasn't until I got into the elevator that I looked down to assess the damage. There is a three-inch hole in my nylons over my left knee, and a three-inch wide scrape on my knee to match. And not only that, but the slit in the side of my calf-length skirt that used to go from my calf to my knee now goes halfway up my thigh. I head straight for the bathroom in the office and clean off my knee, then stand there shaking my head at myself in the mirror and try to decide what to do. Had my skirt not been torn, I would have just walked to the drug store down the street and bought new nylons and a bandage, but there was no way I could stay at work with this slit that went up to the hem of my jacket. Fantastic. I admit to a few people what really happened and tell the receptionist that I have to go home but I'll be back. Drove all the way back home (about 25 miles), put on pants and trouser socks, drove to the drugstore, bought bandages, drove to the cable company to pay my bill (hey, it was too convenient), and drove back to work. Two days ago, I lose power in my house. Last night, I locked my keys in my car. Today I fall walking in to work and have to admit to InternDarren (who I'm kind of starting to like like, especially since I haven't heard one word about a girlfriend) that I have to go home because I skinned my knee. What the hell is going to happen to me tomorrow? |
